Dave Hollander: An Abbreviated Biography
Dave
Hollander is the author of 52 WEEKS: Interviews with Champions! (The
Lyons Press) -- his recent collection of personal stories and stunningly
candid interviews with fifty-two famous sports figures including Lawrence
Taylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Rickey Henderson, George Plimpton, Mariano Rivera,
Steve Nash and John Wooden.
Hollander was the Executive Producer, Creator and writer for Gate D, a hip, fast-paced variety show for young fans of the New Jersey Nets, which aired on Fox Sports New York for two seasons, 1998-1999. Hollander was also Co-Creator of Album Covers on MTV2, featuring Dashboard Confessional, Michael Stipe, Guster and The Violent Femmes, 2004.
Hollander founded and directed the Arlene’s Grocery Picture Show (2001-2005), the largest annual independent film festival in New York City. He serves as “consigliore” to the popular New York nightspot Arlene’s Grocery, which he ran for years. An attorney by trade, Hollander co–authored a bestselling guide to law schools in America, The Princeton Review’s The Best Law Schools (Random House). He has published numerous articles on sports, law and social issues and is a regular contributor and columnist to major publications including AOL Sports, SI.com, the Sports Illustrated website, New York Press, Interview and Penthouse.
In 2004, Hollander received
the annual NYPD 7th Precinct “Award for
Community Service.”
He is a frequent guest lecturer at the New York
University School of Sport Management and Leisure Studies as well as a popular
speaker with schools, universities, corporate, community and civic groups. He
has made numerous media appearances including CNN, FOX , WFAN radio and SIRIUS
Satellite Radio.
